CU's BPA Letter to FDA Commissioner Hamburg

On behalf of Consumers Union, the non-profit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine, we wish to alert you to the publication, in our December 2009 issue, of a summary of our test results of bisphenol A (BPA) in canned foods. This will be publicly available on November 2, 2009. We found measurable levels of BPA in all tested samples of a wide range of canned foods, results which we believe will be of interest to the FDA as it reassesses the current BPA safety limits and assumptions regarding potential BPA exposure levels from canned foods. We have attached a detailed spreadsheet of our results, which will also be posted online at www.buysafeeatwell.org.
